Be More Chill- Play Review
The play was based on a novel written by Ned Vizzini in 2004 and is based on an teen struggling through high school as he doesn't seem to 'fit in'. The original success of the musical adaptation was the production based in the Two River Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey that opened in 2015. Currently, a broadway debut is planned and a film adaptation is in planning.
The execution of this performance was excellent, the characters were all cast perfectly and each part of the story felt relatable for the teenage audience watching. The production also differs from normality with unique and quirky characters.
A character that stood out for me was Christine- played by Stephanie Hsu. She brought so much energy and liveliness to the whole performance and delivered her comedic lines to perfection. However no one can deny the most loveable character has to be Michael- played by George Salazar. During his solo song, 'Michael in the bathroom', the audience falls in love with his character and are rooting for him through the rest of the production.
So would I recommend to go and see this upcoming new musical? Absolutely! I have never come out of a performance feeling so energised.
